We collect and store the following information only on your device:

  • Log Entries: Text, titles, descriptions, and notes you create.

  • Audio Recordings: Voice logs you create (stored locally).

  • Photos & Images: Images you choose or capture to attach to entries (stored locally).

  • User Preferences: Quote settings, theme choices, sound options, and notification preferences.

2.2 Automatically Collected Information (Anonymous)

We use Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics to collect anonymous technical data:

Analytics (Anonymous):

  • App open counts & screen views

  • Feature interactions

  • Navigation patterns

  • Device type & OS version

  • App performance metrics

Crash Reports (Anonymous):

  • Crash logs & stack traces

  • Device model / OS at time of crash

  • Diagnostic error messages

No personally identifiable information (PII) is collected.

2.3 Third-Party Services

  • Pixabay API: When using the in-app image search feature, your search query is sent to Pixabay to retrieve results. We do not store these queries.
    Pixabay may process queries under their privacy policy.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use collected data strictly for:

  • Providing and maintaining core features of the App

  • Improving performance, usability, and stability

  • Fixing bugs through diagnostics

  • Personalizing your in-app experience

  • Responding to support requests

We do not sell or share your personal data for marketing.

4. Data Storage and Security

4.1 Local Storage (On Your Device Only)

Stored using SwiftData:

  • Log entries

  • Audio logs

  • Photos & images

  • Game and quiz progress

  • Achievements and mission data

These are never uploaded to our servers.

4.2 Cloud Services

  • Firebase Analytics → Anonymous usage data

  • Crashlytics → Crash diagnostics

  • Pixabay → Image search queries

We do not collect names, emails, phone numbers, or personal identifiers.

4.3 Security

While no system is 100% secure, we implement reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information.

5. Data Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell, trade, or rent your data.
Data may only be shared in these cases:

  • With service providers:

    • Google Firebase (analytics + crash logs)

    • Pixabay (image search)

  • Legal requirement:
    If required by law, regulation, or to protect our rights.

6. Your Rights and Choices

6.1 Access & Deletion

You may delete your personal content anytime:

  • Delete logs manually

  • Use “Clear Log Entries” or “Reset Game Data”

  • Uninstalling the App removes all local data

6.2 Analytics & Crash Reporting

These functions cannot be disabled, but all processed data is anonymous and aggregated.

6.3 Permissions

You can revoke app permissions anytime:

  • Microphone

  • Photo Library

  • Camera

Revoking these permissions may disable related features.

7. Children’s Privacy

Captain’s Log is not intended for children under 13.
We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
If you believe a child has submitted information, please contact us.

8. International Data Transfers

Analytics and crash data may be processed by Firebase servers in various countries.
By using the App, you consent to such transfers.

9. Data Retention

  • Local Device Data: Stored until you delete it or uninstall the App

  • Analytics Data: Retained according to Google’s retention policies (usually 14 months)

  • Crash Reports: Retained per Firebase’s retention policies

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically.
Updates will be shown in the App and by modifying the “Last Updated” date.
We recommend reviewing this policy occasionally.

11. Third-Party Links

The App may contain links to external services (e.g., Pixabay).
We are not responsible for the content or privacy practices of third parties.
